
Mia Øquist
Mia Øquist, lives and works as a visual/performance artist in Bergen. Since she graduated from the Bergen National Academy in 2009 she has focused on performances, texts and drawings.She are inspired by the contents; humans in social situations, and the humans in political, public and privat spaces. Øquist has done performances in Norway, Europe, USA and China. She has a Master from Bergen National Academy , Bachelor from the Trondheim Academy of fine arts and had an exchange to The Royal Art Academy in Stockholm. Øquist has held performances and exhibitions in Norway, Europa, Usa and Asia. Without doing own projects she have teached in different workshops in art, are in the board of PAB, and have organized performance events and festivals since 2006. Last festival she are engaged in are project coordinator at PAB-open 2019 - Grand Hotel Terminus.
In 2015 the artist traveled on a performance inter-rail in Europa as an observer, a woman in costume who do drawings and notes of humans. The name of the project are “This book should not leave youre country”. In the performance the artist have a photographer who take hidden documentation. The photo documentation are published at social media and at the artist homepage. Observations like this have been an ongoing project since 2007.
In occasion to moving through different landscapes, crossing borders and people – the movement has led to a performance series where the artist explore to crawl through surfaces.
In PAO festival 2017 in Oslo the artist crawl true a 100 m. tunell. The end of the tunell was closed and the artist had to crawl back the same way. The name of the performance was “Soft Claustrophobia”. As an active member of Performance Art Bergen the artist have been participating in performance open sessions - It has led to a performance series where she explores the body also physically and mentally like a performance with name “Soft Claustrophobia”.
