Jennifer Ng
UK based artist Dr. Jennifer Ng adopts an interdisciplinary, process-centric approach in her practice. Initially trained as a Chinese ink painter, she had over the years, contemporised and conceptualised the Chinese ink as a reflective and reflexive medium. In her performances, she uses ink as a conduit to explore personal, natural, and cultural phenomena, particularly the ideas of presence /existence, absence/ loss/lost, and transformation. In her works, materiality functions as the visceral connection to immaterial complexities, allowing her to ‘get into things’ and to study phenomena from the inside-out. In some of her works, she uses objects from her Southeast Asian heritage, to examine cultural loss, and reimagine narratives. The geographical distance between the UK and Singapore, both places she calls home, had since given her new ways of thinking about her transcultural identity, her sense of being and place. Some of Jennifer's recent performances include 'Same Moon Different Suns' (Manchester), 'Black Water Blade: 5 am' (Bath), '現 [Presence] Between the Lines' (London), and 'Chukop [Enough]' (Birmingham).
