Else Olsen S

Else Olsen S. (1978). Her work is based in sound, text and performance, educated from The Norwegian Academy of Music (NMH), and through studies with Kjell Samkopf (N), Pauline Oliveros (US, 1932-2016) and Christian Wolff (US). Her Ph.D., from NMH and The Grieg Academy, carries the title Open form - An Expanded Performer´s Role (2015), deals with interpretation and performance of works with unconventional notation, such as text or graphic scores. Working within experimental art, she also mixes with other genres, such as the chapel house culture and Norwegian folk music. Extended instrumental techniques and prepared piano is an important part of her practice. She is also conductor of The Toy Orchestra, an orchestra that specializes in interacting with human musicians. The toys all have different background, some old, some new, but all with a strong need to express themselves. As a conductor, Else Olsen S. actively works against discrimination against toys, which they often experience compared to conventional musical instruments.
