Katharine Meynell
Katharine Meynell is an artist, scholar and writer. She has a strong feminist and ecological engagement, one which is playful & iconoclastic, delicately balancing the serious with the absurd. Meynell's solo performances in the last two years have focused on an embodied, everyday experience of the world, working with fungus (Funglings 2023), soil (SOIL 2024), shit, potatoes, etc (Balancing Acts 2025). In addition, she has worked collaboratively with Susan Johanknecht at the Gefn Press on many small books including !! (Casserolade) 2024, in which they aim to teach their granddaughters non-violent direct action - banging pans. For (feminist performance trio) GraceGraceGrace, Meynell wrote a Manifesto on women & aging (2018) and a broadsheet on Femicide (2022). Occasionally she comedically is a hopeless backing singer for Clippetyclop and PISS, two bands of musicians & non-musicians challenging the hierarchies of skill and (dis)ability. Meynell's method is to find a balance between improvisation and use of place and objects - using an already known series of physical things and then ‘winging it’ to see what happens. This allows the unexpected and the immediately present to inform what takes place. She imagines that she could work anywhere with anything.
